Projects

Åsmund Stener Olsen is actively engaged in a variety of projects. Over the past year, he has been performing extensively with Vegard Lund, one of Norway’s most active lutenists and guitarists. The Lund & Olsen duo primarily focuses on 19th-century music, with particular emphasis on the foremost guitar composer of the period, Fernando Sor. They perform on period instruments—copies of guitars by Anton Staufer, René Lacôte, and Louis Panormo made by Bernard Kresse and Simon Ambridge. Their repertoire also includes contemporary music, and they have recently premiered a new work by Arnt Håkon Ånesen, in addition to performing music by Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt at venues such as the Vigeland Mausoleum in Oslo.In addition to his duo work, Olsen is also a member of a guitar trio together with Vegard Lund and Roy Henning Snyen, one of Norway’s leading classical guitarists. This ensemble focuses on original repertoire for three guitars, with a particular interest in music by Norwegian composers. Their programmes include works by composers such as Morten Gaathaug and Kjell Marcussen. Alongside this, the trio actively seeks out lesser-known and rarely performed works for three guitars, bringing to light hidden gems from the repertoire, and has performed music by composers such as Ferenc Farkas and Paul Hindemith. The trio is dedicated to expanding, contextualising, and promoting contemporary and historical music written specifically for this rare instrumentation.
